Tzu Chi University’s Accomplishments in 2020

一、 落實教學創新及提升教學品質 (優化慈大教研)

1. Implementing Teaching Innovations to Enhance Teaching Quality

校務研究引領校務整體發展

Carried out institutional research for guiding the University to establish its policies, practices, and programs.

*本校完成11個校務議題分析模組,結果於校級會議報告並供決策參考。

Completed eleven modules for analyzing issues faced by the University, and the results were provided to the University’s administrators to assist them in making decisions.

確保學生學習成效,落實學用合一保障就業

Ensured students’ learning effectiveness, thus narrowing the gap between their University learning and employers’ expectations in the workplace, and helping them to pursue their desired jobs.

*本校參與中研院「COVID-19合作平台」,與台北慈院、中研院合作成功開發IgM/IgG雙抗體檢測試劑。通過衛生福利部防疫專案核准製造。以非營利方式將試劑送往印尼、宏都拉斯、玻利維亞、多明尼加、南非等5國共13萬劑,後續更將提供莫三比克1萬劑。此次有3萬5千份試劑中的蛋白質由本校大學部學生團隊協助處理,是一次將課堂所學知識技術轉變為最接近臨床產品的寶貴經驗(https://reurl.cc/ygxaaa)。

The University participated in the COVID-19 Collaboration Platform organized by the Academia Sinica, and also worked jointly with Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital and the Academia Sinica to successfully develop an IgM/IgG antibody detection kit. The kit was approved by the government for manufacturing.

A total of 130,000 kits were sent to Indonesia, Honduras, Bolivia, the Dominican Republic and South Africa, free-of-charge, and 10,000 pieces will be sent to Mozambique.

This time, the protein in 35,000 reagents was processed with assistance of the University’s undergraduate students. This was a good experience for students, who put what they had learned into practice. Access https://reurl.cc/ygxaaa for details.

*本校就學穩定率91.23%、各類專業證照國考通過率持續優於全國平均通過率,且醫學系109年度醫師(二)國考全數通過,社工系應屆畢業學生高考錄取率64.86%,高於全國錄取率24.76%。畢業生待業率109年為2.94%。

In 2020, 91.23% of the University’s students decided to continue their studies at the University.

For years, the passing rates of taking various National Licensure Examinations by the University’s graduating students have been higher than the national averages. This year, all our medical students passed Phase II of the National Licensure Examination for Physicians. Moreover, 64.86% of the social work students passed their licensure exams, which is higher than the national average of 24.76%.

At the end of 2020, 2.94% of our University graduates were still looking for jobs.

*本校【天空學院】獲得「大學深化數位學習推動與創新應用計畫」補助。一門課程獲2020開放教育優良課程優等獎。並受邀在「2020全球開放教育國際研討會(OE GLOBAL 2020)」及第四屆ELOE數位學習國際研討會暨開放教育論壇(e-Learning International Conference & Open Education Forum)分享慈大經驗。

TCU Learning Paradise received a grant from the “Enhancement of the University’s E-Learning and Innovative application” project. A University MOOCs course won the Excellent Course Award bestowed by the Taiwan Open Education Symposium. Moreover, the University was invited to share its experience at the Open Education Global Conference 2020. The University also presented its undertakings at the 4th e-Learning International Conference & Open Education Forum.

優化教師輔導系統、強化提升研究動能

Empowered faculty members’ teaching and research capabilities

*108-2學期教學滿意度調查結果低於3.5分之課程數由0.96%再降低至0.56%。

In 2020, only 0.56% of the University’s courses received 3.5 or less in course evaluation surveys, down from 0.96% in 2019.

*本校提出9案申請教育部「教學實踐研究計畫」,整體通過率77.78%。110年再提出11案申請

Seven out of 9 (77.78%) faculty members who applied for the “MOE Teaching Practice Research Program” received grants from the Ministry of Education. The University’s faculty members plan to apply for eleven projects in 2021.

*本校兒童發展與家庭教育學系李雪菱副教授在「2020年大學教師優良創新課程及教學競賽」中,獲得唯一「特優」殊榮。

Professor Shiue-Ling Lee, a faculty member of the Department of Child Development and Family Studies, is the only person who won the High Distinction Award in a competition entitled the “2020 Excellence in Course Innovation and Teaching Endeavors for University’s Faculty Members”.

2. Developing the University’s Special Features

立足台灣昂首遨遊全球

The University is situated in Taiwan and maintains open-mindedness to interact with others around the world

The University’s Medical Simulation Center is well respected around the world for its anatomy course. In 2020, the University was invited by University Malaya, in Malaysia, to provide advice on their Silent Mentor Program. Access (https://reurl.cc/Q3GD0b) for details.

*109學年就讀學位之國際學生占比11%。

In academic year 2020, around 11% of the University’s students are International students

*推動國際難民教育人才培育計畫與土耳其滿納海學校進行華語線上課程及英文學伴交流(https://youtu.be/-cvdnsu3EAw)。

To attend to the educational needs of Syrian refugees, the University worked with El Menahil Syria school in Sutlangazi, Turkey to teach Syrian students Mandarin through online courses, and interacted with them in English, as well.

慈大特色教育閃爍全球、穩健邁向世界知名大學

The University’s special features won international recognition.

*自2017年首次參與世界綠能大學排名評比就獲世界第200名佳績,2019年躍昇至世界第146名,2020年再進步至124名。

The University attained 124th in the 2020 Green Metric World University Ranking, up from 146th in 2019, 155th in 2018, and 200th in 2017.

*108及109年連續2年獲教育部「生命教育特色學校」肯定。

The University was named the “Life Education Featured School” by the Ministry of Education in 2019 and in 2020.

*2020英國泰晤士高等教育世界大學影響力排名,本校在SDG3促進健康照護及人類福祉名列45、在SDG17強化永續發展全球夥伴關係排名69。

The University was ranked 45th in Good Health and Well-Being of SDG 3 and 69th in Partnerships for the Goals of SDG 17 in the Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings in 2020.

三、 提升高教公共性 (強化慈大特色)

3. Expanding Public Services

多元招生重視弱勢族群

Welcomed underprivileged students and attended to their needs

*本校近三學年度註冊率已穩定成長,經濟文化不利學生休退學比例逐年下降,

For the past three years, percentages of students deciding to continue their studies in the University have been increasing, and the percentage of students taking leaves of absence or discontinuing their studies has been decreasing.

* 本校有完整「完善弱勢輔導機制」協助經濟文化不利與原住民族學生設定各階段學習目標、搭配業師陪伴完成目標,培養學生與職場無縫接軌。

The University attended to the needs of underprivileged students, as well as indigenous students, by inspiring them to set learning goals, and inviting volunteers with extensive work experience to accompany and assist them to seek employment.

健全校務治理、系所評鑑全數通過

Enhanced University governance, so that all departments, institutes, and other academic units passed the various evaluations conducted by evaluation and accreditation institutions.

*本校財務體質健全,108學年可用資產排名全國第4。

The University’s financial condition is very good, and in 2020, the amount of its assets was ranked 4th among higher education institutions in Taiwan.

The Accounting Office has complied with the Ministry of Education’s requirements to disclose relevant information on the University’s website. Information disclosed by the Accounting Office contains the University’s general information, audited financial statements, total amount of tuitions & fees, financial aid and assistance, internal audits, and other relevant information. *本校已建立全校性之自我評鑑機制,本校第一、二週期系所評鑑獲100%通過。第一、二週期校務評鑑,以及通識教育評鑑與師資培育評鑑等亦全數通過外部評鑑檢視。

The University has carried out a university-wide self-evaluation mechanism for years. In 2019, all departments and institutes passed the phase I & II evaluations conducted by the Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan. Moreover, the Center for General Education passed the General Education Evaluation and the Center for Teacher Education passed the Teacher Education Evaluation.

*醫學系TMAC評鑑通過並獲得六年效期最高等級的肯定。

The School of Medicine passed the Taiwan Medical Accreditation Council’s evaluation with the highest level, which is valid for six years.

推動終身學習升級為全球志工大學

The University attended to the lifelong learning needs of volunteers around the world and prepared students to become professionals with the spirit of volunteerism.

*本校社會教育推廣中心遍布全台15據點及海外6個據點,每年開設3,300班次,109年社會教育推廣課程學員總人次達49,993人次。

To serve the public, the Continuing Education Center has offered courses in fifteen domestic locations and six overseas. The Center has provided 3,300 courses every year and the total number of students reached 49,993 people.

*108學年起升級成為全球志工大學,依志工需求規劃救災訓練、悲傷輔導、助人技巧及語文等相關學分班。

Beginning in 2019, the University decided to take a big step to attend to volunteers’ needs around the world, by providing various programs, such as training in carrying out emergency relief work, grief counseling, skills for helping others, language learning, etc.

四、 善盡社會責任(承擔社會使命)

4. Fulfilling Social Responsibilities

*109年初因肺炎疫情不實訊息滿天飛,本校由相關專業系所師資拍攝「新型冠狀病毒每日Q&A」短片(https://www.tcu.edu.tw/?cat=92),由各類媒體平台傳遞正確知識,解決民眾的疑惑。

Incorrect COVID-19 information was spread in Taiwan at the beginning of 2020, so the University decided to share correct information by producing numerous short videos entitled “Daily Q&A About COVID-19”. These videos were made by faculty members who shared their expertise with the public through various social media.

服務學習實踐利他人文、無毒有我反毒教育宣導

Carried out altruistic deeds and participated in the anti-drug abuse campaign

*本校連續四年獲選反毒績優學校。

The University was recognized as an Excellent University in Carrying Out Anti-drug Abuse Campaigns in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.

*109年教育部青發署教育業務志願服務獎勵,本校有15位同學、3團隊獲得青學獎與績優團隊,得獎比例佔全國1/2。

The Award of Distinct Volunteer Service in Education is bestowed by the Ministry of Education’s Youth Development Administration. In 2020, fifteen University students and three teams were awarded for their volunteer endeavors.

*無毒有我志工團隊25人全數通過109年花蓮縣政府教育處舉辦花蓮縣第一屆「校園防毒守門員種子師資培訓暨認證」,納入花蓮縣防毒師資人才庫,具備擔任中小學毒品防制宣講人員資格。

Twenty-five TCU student volunteers, who took part in numerous University sponsored anti-drug abuse campaigns, were certified by the Hualien County Government as “Seed Teachers for Teaching Anti-drug Abuse”, after they received training. They may visit elementary schools, junior high schools and senior high schools in Hualien County to address anti-drug abuse issues.

*全校參與師生數共5,534人次,服務學習活動時數39,254,服務受益人次達22,381人次。
A total of 5,534 faculty members, staff and students participated in service-learning activities, a total of 39,254 hours. Altogether 22,381 people benefited from their services.

大學社會責任實踐計畫

Fulfill University Social Responsibility (USR)

*本校參與USR教師數109年已提升至54人,參與USR場域學生提升至4,504人次。

In 2020, 54 faculty members and 4,504 students regularly took part in USR programs.

*首創慈濟大學PGS認證,與慈濟基金會合作推動「慈濟大學參與式驗證」TCUPGS (Participatory Grantee System),透過農民之間「同儕驗證」、「消費者參與驗證」等多方參與機制,建立更符合永續發展目標之農產品認證系統。

To supplement the current agricultural product certification system to be more in line with sustainable development goals, the University worked with Tzu Chi Foundation to promote TCUPGS (Tzu Chi University Participatory Grantee System) step-by-step, by building numerous participatory evaluations, such as peer evaluation, consumer evaluation, etc.

*本校師生團隊與花蓮小農建立「田心綠生活聯盟」,成為「2020花蓮縣農產包裝及品牌輔導計畫」遴選出五個產品品牌之一。

The University’s faculty members and students worked with local farmers to set up the “Green Life Alliance”. This brand was selected by the Hualien County Government’s Agricultural Packaging and Brand Counseling Project as one of the five best product brands in 2020.

本校高教深耕計畫呼應校務中長程發展的願景形塑慈濟大學為培育富有志工精神的專業人才及全球志工繼續進修之大學的「國際性專業志工大學」及「實踐永續發展目標之典範學校」。

In responding to the Higher Education Sprout Project’s request that every university set long-term development goals, the University decided to be a model university that prepares students to become professionals with the spirit of volunteerism, assists volunteers around the world to pursue their lifelong education, and carries out sustainable development practices.
