Tzu Chi University’s Accomplishments in 2018~2022

Tzu Chi University has carried out the Higher Education Sprout Project from 2018 to 2022 and presents its accomplishments on the Sprout Project’s website https://hesp.tcu.edu.tw/.

Objective 1: Enhancing Teaching Quality and Research Endeavor

◎Global Views Monthly’s 2022 University Rankings in Taiwan places Tzu Chi University 4th among medical universities, up from 2021.

◎The University has passed phase II of the HEEACT Program Accreditation conducted by the Taiwan Assessment and Evaluation Association.

◎All departments and institutes have passed phase III evaluations conducted by the Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan.

◎Moreover, the Center for General Education has passed the General Education Evaluation, and the Center for Teacher Education passed the Teacher Education Evaluation.

◎The School of Medicine passed the Taiwan Medical Accreditation Council’s evaluation with the highest level, valid for six years.

◎For many years, the passing rates of various National Licensure Examinations taken by the University’s graduating students have been higher than national averages. The University’s students took first place in the 2018 and 2019 Chinese Medicine Practitioners Licensing Examination, the 2020 Social Worker Licensure Examination, and the 2022 Physical Therapist Licensure Examination. Moreover, all Chinese Medicine students passed the second phase of the 2019, 2020, and 2021 Chinese Medicine Practitioners Licensing Examination.

  • From 2018 to 2022, 68% of our faculty members who applied for the MOE Teaching Practice Research Program received grants, and the total number of projects was 42.
  • In 2018, four faculty members received their funding from Key Projects.
  • One faculty member won the 2020 Distinguished Award and another one won the 2022 Excellence Award, in the “Outstanding in Teaching Innovation and Course Design Competition.”
  • Five faculty members were promoted due to their endeavors in teaching practice research, and one was promoted for artistic creation.

The University has received grants from the Ministry of Education’s Digital Learning Project for eight consecutive years. Many e-learning courses received various awards:

  • Four courses have won the Ministry of Education’s Benchmark Course Award.
  • Another four have received the National Open Education Excellent Course Award.
  • A MOOC course earned an award in 2019, bestowed by the e-Learning International Conference & Open Education Forum.

◎In 2022, three faculty members received International Inventor Prizes bestowed by the International Innovation and Invention Competition.

Objective 2: Developing the University’s unique features and working with individuals and institutions globally

◎The University has been on the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings list for four consecutive years. In 2022, the overall ranking worldwide for the University was 201-300, and it was 12th in United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3): Good health and well-being.

◎In 2018, the University received the National Sustainable Development Award; in 2021, it won the Model University Award for Sustainable Development, and the Taiwan Sustainable University Award in 2022.

◎In 2022, the University attained 143rd in the Green Metric World University Ranking and 14th in Taiwan. The University has worked on environmental sustainability and has ranked within the top 200 every year since 2017.

◎The University worked with Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital and other institutions on 3D Simulation Assisted Surgical Reposition and Fixation. This endeavor in clinical innovation received the National Innovation Award in 2021.

◎The University has received numerous awards from the Ministry of Education:

(1) Outstanding University and Staff for Guiding International Students in 2018.

(2) Excellent University in Implementing Life Education in 2019 and 2020.

(3) Distinguished University for Drug Abuse Prevention in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.

Objective 3: Working on sustainable development and paying particular attention to needs in eastern Taiwan

◎The University’s financial condition is excellent. Regarding financial health, the University placed 20th in 2019 and 6th in 2022, in Global Views Monthly’s University Rankings in Taiwan. Every year, the University provides scholarships and other financial aid which account for at least 35% of the tuition and fees.

◎The University collaborated with Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital and the Academia Sinica to develop COVID-19 antibody detection kits. The kits were sent as gifts to other countries lacking healthcare and testing resources. The kits’ quality and their contribution to public health won the 2021 Award for National Quality.

◎The University received various awards from the Ministry of Education for students’ altruistic services:

  • SCLOVE won the Bronze Team Award for Volunteer Service Overseas in 2018 and 2019.
  • From 2018 to 2022, five student volunteer teams received Outstanding awards for serving the public.
  • From 2018 to 2022, ten volunteer teams received Distinguished Volunteer Team Awards, and 54 students won Distinguished Students Volunteer Awards.
  • The University’s Service-Learning Group received the Excellent Team Award in Mobilizing Volunteers in 2021.
  • One unit won the Outstanding Award for Promoting Indigenous Family Education in 2020.
  • One unit received the Outstanding Team Award for Promoting Family Education in 2021.
